![]() Lovecraft where both disgraced in their owns times I don’t see the same thing happening to the games based on their epic battle of fact vs fiction. It has come up with some new ideas, some excellent twin stick shooter game play and a small bit of history thrown in to seal the deal. In a world where top down shooters are plentiful and mostly generic Tesla vs Lovecraft stands out from the crowd. I’d have to say my favourite part about the audio is that the cut scenes are voiced rather than just silence which I appreciate, it would be vary easy to just subtitle it and just give you that, but they went to the time and expense of actually voicing the characters. Now onto the games audio and I have to admit that the guns sound do sound pretty good and the music is very fitting for the setting although the cries of the enemies are basic to say the least and there isn’t a great deal of variety between the monsters cries. He is arrested, but breaks out of prison by summoning Cthulu. As a man of science, Tesla is demonstrating of his iconic Tesla coil to an audience, and Lovecraft disagrees, interrupting the show by climbing on-stage, old man yells at cloud style. ![]() However, it throws in a few things that make it stand out from games of the genre. The story forged to bring these two pop culture icons together is throwaway. Tesla vs Lovecraft shares many of the same gameplay features that most top down shooters employ with you fighting on foot, picking up items like guns, health packs and other items that will help you defeat the horde of monsters headed your way. ![]() ![]() While there is fun in the premise of knocking back waves of Lovecraftian horrors while teleporting around them and maximizing Tesla's devices, none of these concepts ever truly hits the mark. The story culminates with on last battle which takes places at Wardenclyffe (for those who don’t know this was where Tesla did his wireless transmission experiments in New York in 1901-1902) Gameplay Lovecraft is imbued with a frenetic, bold energy that I only wish its designers had committed to more strongly. They had an interesting premise but never developed on that, I truly believe that if the game had gone a bit further with the story then this would have been an incredible story. After this there's not much of a story and i t’s a shame they didn’t do more with the story. Tesla isn’t going down without a fight though, he gathers his weapons and later his Tesla-mech and fights back so he can continue his experiments. But it also doesn’t do anything particularly noteworthy, either, which makes it hard to be too enthusiastic about the game.ġ0tons provided us with a Tesla vs Lovecraft PS4 code for review purposes.Deciding that it was too dangerous to allow Tesla to keep doing his experiments Lovecraft sets his lab ablaze and sends his horrors to dispatch the scientist. 10tons have shown time and again that they know how to make sci-fi-inflected twin-stick shooters, and Tesla vs Lovecraft doesn’t suggest they’re losing their touch. While the game undeniably has a unique premise, it doesn’t seem to do much more with it - it’s just a standard twin-stick shooter with a horror/sci-fi twist.Īgain, there’s nothing inherently wrong with that. With a set-up like that, you might think that imagination was one of Tesla vs. You have weapons that range from revolvers to nukes, and you battle your way through appropriately spooky Victorian settings. Despite that bit of questionable design, Tesla vs Lovecraft is a delight thanks to its fast, tight action and its smart use of setting to push it over the top. ![]() It does everything you’d expect from a twin-stick shooter, and it does with a little bit of style. It controls fine, and the action can get nice and frenetic, but it’s a kind of experience you’ve most likely had before. In fact, if pressed I’d probably place it squarely between Neon Chrome and Jydge, which captures perfectly how middle-of-the-road this game is. Lovecraft largely feels like a standard arena shooter with a neatthough not perfectperk system placed into it. It’s nowhere near as good as the exceptional Time Recoil, but it’s also miles better than the awful Crimsonland. Within 10tons’ oeuvre, Tesla vs Lovecraft slots in right around the middle. Tesla vs Lovecraft review code supplied by the publisher. They’ve made other stuff, too - much of which I’ve rather enjoyed - but they certainly seem to have found their niche within that particular genre. After all, it’s made by 10tons, who, off the top of my head, have also made Time Recoil, Neon Chrome, Crimsonland, and Jydge. It should come as no surprise that Tesla vs Lovecraft is a top-down twin-stick shooter. ![]()
